Big news from Navarro College! Dustin Velazquez has officially been named the new Head Cheer Coach, taking the reins after Monica Aldama’s retirement at the end of the 2023 fall semester. Velazquez, a familiar face at Navarro, has been serving as the interim coach and previously held the position of Assistant Cheer Coach since Fall 2021. He’s also a proud former Navarro College Cheerleader, bringing a deep connection and rich history with the program.
Velazquez isn’t just stepping into this role; he’s leaping with the momentum of success. In April 2024, he led Navarro to its second consecutive NCA Game Day National Championship in Daytona, showcasing his leadership and the team’s relentless drive. His experience on the mat is nothing short of legendary, boasting four national championships as a collegiate athlete, a world championship with the United States National Team, and four coaching titles at Navarro.
Velazquez’s journey is marked by dedication and triumph. He joined the Navarro College Cheer staff at the start of the 2021-2022 year and has been a pivotal part of the program ever since. A former NC Bulldog and cheerleader, Dustin is also a graduate of Morehead State University, where he earned a degree in University Studies with minors in Business and Marketing. His impressive career includes winning four national championships across two different universities and a world championship as a member of the United States National Team.
Navarro Cheer is a powerhouse with a legacy of 18 NCA national titles and 6 NCA grand championships. Under Velazquez’s leadership, the program’s future looks brighter than ever. Adding to the excitement, he will also spearhead the creation of the NJCAA All-Girl team, set to make its debut in Fall 2024.
Beyond the cheer mat, Velazquez resides in Corsicana with his wife, Shannon, and their two children. His commitment to both his family and the sport exemplifies the spirit and dedication that Navarro College Cheer embodies.
