Varsity has announced a series of new security enhancements and athlete support initiatives following the events of March 1, reinforcing its commitment to safety at cheerleading competitions. The organization is focusing on increased security presence, stricter policies, and support for affected athletes and families to ensure a safe and positive competition environment.

Spectator Refunds and Athlete Support
As part of its response, Varsity is offering refunds for spectators impacted by the event. Saturday-only ticket holders are eligible for a full refund, while weekend ticket holders will receive a 50% refund. Refund requests must be submitted through ShowClix.
To support athletes and families affected, Varsity is providing free counseling services through Live Health Online. Information on accessing these resources will be distributed to parents and gyms. Additionally, a virtual competition is being organized for teams unable to complete their performances at the in-person event.
Enhanced Security Measures
In an effort to prevent future incidents, Varsity is implementing significant security upgrades at all non-Disney events, including:
- Increased police presence with uniformed and plainclothes officers
- Implementation of weapon detection technology at select venues
- Stricter enforcement of alcohol policies, including restrictions on outside alcohol and potential suspension of alcohol sales in competition areas
- Zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, with potential lifetime bans for individuals, teams, or gyms
- Enhanced safety messaging displayed throughout event venues
- Reinforced enforcement of prohibited items policies
- Evaluation of a clear bag policy set to begin in the 2025-2026 season
New Security Leadership
Varsity has appointed Lisa Olivieri as Chief Security Officer to lead these efforts. Olivieri, a former U.S. Secret Service official with more than 20 years of experience in security strategy and event protection, will oversee the implementation of these safety measures.
Commitment to a Safe Competition Experience
Varsity is also emphasizing the importance of upholding the Event Code of Conduct, which outlines expectations for sportsmanship and responsible behavior at events. The organization is calling on athletes, coaches, and spectators to work together in maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
The company has stated that these changes are part of its ongoing efforts to ensure cheerleading competitions remain a safe and positive experience for all participants. As Varsity continues to evaluate and improve its safety protocols, the focus remains on protecting athletes and fostering a secure environment for families and fans.
