In a heartbreaking incident, Ayden Burt, a beloved English teacher and cheer coach from Jasper ISD, was fatally struck by a stray bullet while attending the Texas High School Coaches Association Conference in San Antonio. Burt was enjoying a night out at Smoke Skybar when gunfire erupted from a vehicle outside, striking her in the upper back.
The tragic event unfolded early Tuesday morning around 12:15 a.m. San Antonio Police responded to reports of a shooting at the 500 block of East Crockett. Burt was found critically injured on the patio of Smoke Skybar, where she had been seated with her back to the highway.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the shot is believed to have been fired from the vicinity of I-37. Burt was immediately taken to BAMC in critical condition but, tragically, succumbed to her injuries.
As the investigation continues, SAPD reports that no suspects have been identified and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
SAPD is asking for the public’s help for any information regarding this tragic incident.
