Cheerleading just reached a new frontier—high speed.
In a bold crossover move, Nissan Formula E Team has officially partnered with the world-renowned Top Gun All-Stars to create the Sakura Storm, the first-ever dedicated cheerleading squad in motorsport history. The team will debut at the 2025 Miami E-Prix, making cheer history while rallying fans for a high-stakes race weekend.
This historic collaboration fuses two worlds rooted in precision, performance, and adrenaline. Top Gun All-Stars’ flagship TGLC team is stepping into a new identity for race week—introducing Sakura Storm. The name is a nod to Nissan’s Japanese roots and cherry blossom livery, and the uniforms follow suit with custom cherry blossom logos. The transformation marks a fresh fusion of athletic dominance and brand storytelling—bringing world championship cheer power to the Formula E grid.
The announcement came with a surprise flashmob at Jungle Plaza in Miami’s Design District. Dressed in Nissan-inspired gear, the athletes delivered a racing-themed routine fueled by explosive tumbling, stunts, and pyramids—all choreographed to embody the high-octane thrill of Formula E. For Miami sports fans used to NBA courts or NFL stadiums, this was a show unlike anything they’ve seen.
“We created Sakura Storm to mark our arrival in Miami with something unforgettable,” said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Formula E Team’s Managing Director.
“Cheerleading and racing both require insane teamwork, precision, and split-second execution. This partnership celebrates those values on every level.”
The Miami E-Prix, set at Homestead-Miami Speedway, comes at a pivotal moment in the 2025 Formula E season. Nissan currently leads the Manufacturers’, Teams’, and Drivers’ Championships—making this both a victory lap and a vital weekend. The presence of the Sakura Storm adds fresh energy to the paddock and the stands, spotlighting the fusion of sport and spectacle that Formula E is becoming known for.
To bring Sakura Storm to life visually, Rebel Athletic stepped in to design custom uniforms that merge track-inspired aesthetic with performance-grade construction. Each athlete will wear the limited-edition look, stamped with a cherry blossom logo representing Nissan’s Japanese heritage and Formula E livery.
“At Rebel, we live to push the limits of what’s possible in all-star cheer, and this groundbreaking collaboration with Nissan and Top Gun TGLC is a perfect example,” said Karen Noseff Aldridge, CEO of Rebel Athletic. “This is more than a new uniform, it’s a historic moment for cheerleading. A fusion of elite sport, high-performance design, and mainstream culture. We’re proud to lead the way in bringing iconic branding and bold innovation to the mat like never before.”
Top Gun All-Stars: Legends of the Mat
Founded in 1994, Top Gun All-Stars Miami is synonymous with cheerleading excellence. With 29 World Championship titles under their belt, they’re among the most decorated programs in the sport. Their TGLC squad—now Sakura Storm—is a powerhouse of elite athletes aged 13–19, many of whom will compete for a fifth straight world title later this month at The Cheerleading Worlds in Orlando.
“This is a dream opportunity,” said Cory Hines, Director and Choreographer at Top Gun All-Stars. “To perform for a live crowd outside the cheer world, and align with a team like Nissan that values precision and power—that’s next-level. Our athletes will never forget this.”
The Bigger Picture: Why This Partnership Matters
While it’s a headline-grabbing moment, the Nissan x Top Gun partnership speaks to a wider cultural shift. Cheerleading is no longer relegated to the sidelines—it’s a performance sport, globally recognized and now aligned with the elite tier of electric racing. Formula E, for its part, is pushing the boundaries of what racing can look and feel like—bringing in live music, immersive fan experiences, and now, all-star cheerleading.
It’s also a smart strategic move. The U.S. is home to 3.8 million cheerleaders, and cheer is the third-most participated activity among American teen girls. For a sport like Formula E, looking to grow its American fanbase, tapping into the spirit, showmanship, and massive reach of cheerleading is a power play.
