NBC is diving into the world of competitive cheerleading with a fresh mockumentary-style comedy. The network has officially given a pilot order to Stumble, a single-camera series set in the high-stakes world of junior college cheerleading.
Cheer Royalty Joins the Project
One of the biggest names in cheerleading, Monica Aldama—head coach of the Navarro College cheer squad featured in Netflix’s Cheer—is on board as an executive producer. Aldama, who led Navarro to national championships and became a household name through the hit docuseries, will bring her firsthand expertise to the project.
Stumble is written by veteran comedy duo Liz and Jeff Astrof, marking the first time the siblings have teamed up on a series. Both have an impressive track record in TV, with credits including Shining Vale, Trial & Error, and Friends. The show is produced by Universal Television, with Dana Honor also serving as an executive producer through Defining Eve Productions.
Inside the Show
Described as “a mockumentary about the ridiculously high-stakes competitive world of junior college cheer,” Stumble promises to blend humor with the intense athleticism and drama of the sport. While fictional, it will likely take inspiration from the cutthroat nature of real-life collegiate cheerleading, where hitting zero isn’t just the goal—it’s the expectation.
The project was first announced in late 2024 with a put-pilot commitment, and with NBC now officially ordering the pilot, the cheer community will be eagerly awaiting more details.
Will NBC Stick the Landing?
With Aldama’s expertise, the Astrof duo’s comedic touch, and the continued pop culture fascination with cheerleading, Stumble has the potential to bring a fresh, entertaining spin to the sport. If the pilot gets picked up, cheer fans may finally have a scripted series that captures the dedication, intensity, and occasional chaos of life on the mat.
