Xavier University has named Kelsey Bezerra, a 2012 alumna, as the new head coach of the cheerleading program. After seven years as an assistant coach, Bezerra is stepping into the lead role, bringing years of experience and dedication to the position.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Bezerra has been part of the Cincinnati community since her time at Xavier. She was a gymnast for 15 years before transitioning to cheerleading during college. Bezerra spent four years on the Xavier Cheerleading squad and was team captain in her senior year.
For the past seven seasons, Bezerra has worked as an assistant coach for the Xavier cheer team, in addition to serving as the mascot coach. Her coaching experience also includes a summer on staff with the Universal Cheerleading Association and four years as a high school coach at Mariemont.
Bezerra met her husband, Andre Bezerra, at Xavier, where he was a member of the men’s soccer team. They now have two children—Oliver, 4, and Ivy, 1.5—and a dog named Cookie.
As she steps into her new role as head coach, Bezerra is set to build on her years of experience with the Xavier cheer program.
